UDP extends support to PDA in KHADC

SHILLONG: The UDP party has directed all the MDCs of the party in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to extend support to People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) led by People’s Democratic Front (PDF) chairman, PN Syiem.

This was in a letter on Tuesday issued by the UDP through the general secretary of the party, Jemino Mawthoh directing the MDCs to support the PDA for the smooth functioning of the Council.

With the support of the UDP, the strength of the PDA has increased to 24 which includes PDF- 11 MDCs, NPP-4 MDCs, UDP-4 MDCs, HSPDP-3 MDCs, BJP-1 and 1 Independent MDC.

The opposition in the KHADC comprises of four MDCs from Congress one MDC from KHNAM.

The HSPDP has sent a letter of support to the PDA on April 12.

PDA leader and KHADC CEM PN Syiem expressed delight at the support extended by the parties and said the MDCs would be allotted the posts of Executive Members (EMs).

Asked about  the four PDF MDCs who are making attempts to topple him as CEM, he said the matter would be resolved at the party level.

The four PDF rebels are Grace Mary Kharpuri, James Sylliang, JB Basaiawmoit and Latiplang Kharkongor.
