DC calls meeting to discuss crimes against women

TURA: In order to discuss steps and measures to be taken in view of the recent spurt in assault and crimes against women and children, the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner held a meeting on Thursday evening at the DRDA conference hall in Tura.

The meeting was attended by Chairperson, Meghalaya State Commission for Women G T R Marak, President Nokma Council, Tura Shri S G Momin, Secretary, Mothers Union, S B Sangma and other stakeholders of the district.

During the meeting, the Chairperson said that such meetings were necessary to chalk out measures for enforcement of laws to protect the rights of women as well as to deliberate on action against the culprits. The Chairperson also requested that the culprits are booked and strong action taken including the issuance of Non Bail-able Warrant against them.

Meanwhile, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh in an order has directed the district police chief, M G R Kumar to carry out a proper investigation into each case and book the culprits under relevant sections of law.

The DC also sought for submission of the action taken report for information.
