WILLIAMNAGAR: The murder of her husband by Garo militants in the run up to the elections has not daunted her will. Rather it has emboldened her further to pick up from where her husband left and fight for justice.
Krinilla R Marak, NCP candidate and widow of Jonathone Sangma has extensively toured the constituency in the run up to the April 27 by-elections.
Despite heavyweights lending their support to her political rivals, be it in the Congress or the NPP, the soft spoken mother has something the others don’t.
She has an army of devoted party workers who have been tirelessly working day in and day out to reach out to the voters.
Assisting her is state NCP president and Gambegre MLA Saleng A Sangma who has been camping in the area for the past many weeks garnering support for his party’s candidate.
“I am determined to fulfill my late husband’s promise of development for the people of Williamnagar. He always wanted development to be centrepoint of people’s lives. Everyone saw the work done by him and no one had ever left disappointed after meeting him,” says Krinilla to visiting journalists.
This campaign has been a trying time for her following the sudden illness of her daughter who had to be rushed to Guwahati.
She dismisses her critics claims of being a novice to politics and recalls her contribution to her late husband’s campaign during two successive elections.
“My late husband and myself always made it a point to discuss strategy and campaign work during elections,” says the NCP candidate.
She is moved while recalling how her husband’s life was cut short and reiterates her commitment to fulfill his dream.
“People of Williamnagar wanted to see my late husband as their new leader and legislator. They continue to give us support,” says Krinilla while criticising the Congress and NPP candidates for failing to deliver during their tenure as legislators.
