TURA: Owners of public buses from Tura who operate their vehicles on Tura-Baghmara route, have ceased their services to Baghmara, the district headquarters of South Garo Hills in view of the pitiable road conditions.

The bus service to the district headquarters was discontinued on Thursday. However, a source informed that, some vehicles continue to render service up to Gasuapara and Sibbari of the same district.

A member of the Tura Bus Association informed that the condition of the road to Baghmara had worsened to an extent that it was now become almost inoperable for heavy vehicles.

“The condition of the road is so bad now that our owners feel it is not worth continuing the service. Every time a bus leaves for Baghmara and returns to Tura, we have to take it to the garage for repairs which is costing our owners a great deal of money,” he said.

Asked, the association member said that their organization had nothing to do with the stoppage of services, but agreed that continuation of service was not worth it.  He also informed that smaller vehicles like Tata Sumos and private vehicles were still plying on the road.
