MCC, Sec 144 CrPC in force for Ampati by-election

TURA: With the announcement of Election Commission of India for holding the by-election to the 53-Ampati (ST) Assembly constituency on May 28, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into force in the district.

 

As such the District Magistrate, South West Garo Hills, Ampati, H D B Sangma has promulgated Section 144 of the CrPC thereby prohibiting certain activities to ensure conduct of free and fair poll in the by-election.

 

These activities include violation of Model Code of Conduct by individual or political party, giving or receiving bribes or gratification for exercising electoral right, carrying of arms or other lethal weapons and use of government or individual property, premises, land, building etc for banners and posters by political parties or candidates during the entire poll process.

 

The prohibitory order comes into force with immediate effect in the entire district and shall remain in force until further orders.
