Meghalaya chief secy for screening of animals coming to state

SHILLONG: Chief Secretary, Y Tsering stressed on the importance of screening the animals coming from outside the State to ensure that the meat is fit for consumption.

 Speaking at the Meghalaya Veterinary Services Association (MVSA) meeting observed `World Veterinary Day` on Friday at MAMETI, Upper Shillong, he called upon the veterinarian to promote artificial insemination in cattle and pigs to sustain the local breeds of the State.

According to him, the role of veterinarian is challenging as the veterinarian plays a vital role in supporting knowledge, skill and technical support to all the farmers uplifting their livelihood and benefited them as well.

Tsering also raised concern that veterinarians are facing difficulties in the field of diagnosis of diseases, unlike other medical fields that have all the facilities of equipment for diagnostics.
