SHILLONG: The government will take a decision on whether to include deficit teachers in the Fifth Pay Commission within 10 days, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Friday.
A delegation from the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association and the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association met Sangma on Friday.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, president of the association ED Nongsiang said deficit teachers were included in the previous pay commissions and even members of the Fifth Pay Commission, who met them, had recommended pay revision.
The delegation also discussed about the much delayed education policy. Sangma informed that a draft policy will be in the public domain within two months for suggestions and views, Nongsiang told reporters.
The representatives said they were happy with the outcome of the meeting. However, a few contentious issues were also flagged during the discussions.
Nongsiang said the service rules for deficit teachers have been prepared by the Education Department but these were not notified. The delegation told Sangma that MBoSE textbooks are expensive and deficit teachers would like to be part of the board for suggestions.
Sangma told the teachers that MBoSE will soon have a full-fledged chairman.
Other issues like provincialisation of services and pension benefits for deficit teachers were also discussed in the meeting.
They met the chief minister after they had expressed their unhappiness over the meeting with Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui.
