SHILLONG: Kyrmen Shylla, a first-time MLA and the youngest minister in Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s team, pointed out Khliehriat constituency that he represents needs developmental push in many sectors.
“Khliehriat is lagging behind other constituencies. There were no repair works even for the existing road. I will find out ways and means to get better roads in the constituency,” he told reporters on Thursday.
He added that the constituency does not even have a government college though the government intends to set up community colleges.
Shylla expressed concern that there was no civil hospital in Khliehriat.
As for water supply, he said government can utilise the ‘Phe Phe’ spring water source inside the Rymbai Protected Forest and supply to the town, but the matter is still pending.
Expressing his keenness to promote tourist spots, the minister said, “There are many tourist spots in the constituency. It will be a good opportunity for youth to get employment.”
He appealed to the young generation to not lose hope and stay away from anti-social activities.
Shylla also laid emphasis on the importance of promoting sports as he said he knew many youths who are talented sportspersons even without instructors.
Turning to the Agriculture Department, he said the right support from the government should be given to the people in terms of subsidy like power tillers and others. “The government does give subsidy but it gets delayed. I hope the present government does its best to improve the agriculture sector,” he said.
