SHILLONG: Considering seriousness and prevalence of drug related crimes, East Khasi Hills Police have intensified its operations against drug syndicates operating in the city
Following the operations, police has also achieved succeed in recovering contraband items besides arresting many people
East Khasi Hills SP, D Marak in a statement said that on May 4, Anti Narcotic Task Force along with Madanrting Police Staff apprehended one drug peddler Khualsuamtak (23 years), of Lumjingsuk Block – A, and recovered from his possession one soap case containing 12.19 grams of suspected heroin.
Police later arrested another person and recovered 278 grams of suspected heroin from the rented house of Henry Neihsel at Lumjingsuk Block- A.
Police recovered twenty soap cases and 32 golden tobacco tin container all containing suspected heroin weighing 278grms and cash of Rs. 2,14,400.
It is worth mentioning that heroin of more than 250 grams is classified as Commercial Quantity as per NDPS Act.
Earlier on April 27, the ANTF staff apprehended one Slander Syiem of Tyrsad village while he was selling ganja in Paltan Bazar area, and recovered 1kg 340grms of ganja from his possession.
Next day on April 28, ANTF along with Madanrting PS Staff again apprehended one lady Sapthangi Chhak from Thembasuk, Madanrting and recovered from her possession one plastic box and five golden tobacco tin containing suspected heroin weighing 16.50grms and cash amount of Rs. 16,465
Further based on her confession, police arrested another person Shokhomang from his rented house at Demthring and recovered yellow colour sack from behind his apartment which was suspected to be thrown out by the accused Shokhomang on seeing the Police approaching his house. Police recovered thirteen soap cases from the sack containing suspected heroin weighing 162 grams
According to police, it has also been observed that many drug traffickers are operating out of rented premises in the City and house-owners have been advised to take necessary precautions while renting out their premises as allowing premises to be used for commission of such offences may make owners liable under Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
