GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called on the Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi at the Raj Bhavan here on Thursday to apprise the latter of the state of affairs prevailing in the state.
The one-on-one meeting lasting nearly one hour was mainly meant to apprise the Governor of the state of affairs prevailing in the state. The meeting assumed significance in view of the raging protests in Brahmaputra Valley area of the state against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
Meanwhile, Assam police have registered suo moto cases against pro-talks ULFA leader Jiten Dutta and former minister and Congress leader Dr Ardhendu Dey for making provocative statements in view of the situation arising in the state over Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
A case has been registered against the ULFA leader Jiten Dutta at Digboi Police Station in Tinsukia district while Congress leader Ardhendu Dey was summoned to Hojai Police station in Nagaon district today.
Sonowal also informed the Governor about the state government’s preparedness to deal with any exigency arising out of incessant rain in the last few days and help provided by the district administration to the people affected by hail-storm, incessant rain in the state.
Sonowal also drew the attention of the Governor about the progress of various welfare schemes being implemented by the State government.
