2 held for extorting money from city youth

GUWAHATI: Police arrested two persons for extorting money from a youth from Shillong while he was returning after performing in a musical function here, an official press release issued by the Assam Police headquarters on Thursday said.
Sarat Basumatary, 34, a driver, and Manik Baishya, 38, who is a home guard, were arrested on the basis of the enquiry conducted by the city police.
The victim had written to the DGP, Meghalaya about the incident and the latter sent a letter to Commissioner of Police, Guwahati for taking necessary action.
Disciplinary action was ordered against three policemen, Aditya Gogoi of 3rd Assam Police Battalion (APBn), Babul Bhoumik of 14th APBn and Aditya Saikia, 14th APBn by the Commandant in connection with case registered in Dispur police station.
