Guv favours use of technology for development

SHILLONG: Governor Ganga Prasad on Thursday said sustainable development of the region requires efficient management of scarce resources with advanced scientific tools and techniques.
Speaking at a seminar on ‘Advances in Remote Sensing & GIS Applications at Umiam, the governor said the Northeastern region of India is endowed with rich natural resources, wild life, agro-biodiversity and culture and traditions.
He expressed hope that the seminar will address the challenges of natural disasters using space technology.
The seminar was organized by the Indian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS), Shillong in collaboration with the Indian Society of Geomatics (ISG), Shillong, Department of Geography, North-Eastern Hill University and North Eastern Space Applications Centre at NESAC. It will conclude on May 11.
Others who were present include C.H. Kharshiing, Planning Adviser, NEC, Prakash Chouhan, Director, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun, S. Hamilton, Regional Director, Atomic Minerals Directorate, Shillong & President, ISRS-Shillong Chapter, P.L.N. Raju, Director, NESAC & Chairman of the Organising Committee and Prof. B.S. Mipun, NEHU & President, ISG-Shillong Chapter.
About 250 participants from across the country are participating in the seminar and will be deliberating on different areas of technological applications.
