SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM, PN Syiem informed that the Executive Committee (EC) meeting on Friday decided to constitute a committee on Village Administration Bill (VAB).

In the EC meeting on Friday decided to look into consideration the long pending issue of the VAB. The EC informed that the committee would be chaired by MDC Teilinia Thangkhiew, HS Shylla, Manstudy Nongrem, Rona Khyndeit, LamPhrang Blah, Erwin Sutnga as legal advisor.

Opposed work permit

The EC of the KHADC has registered their protest to granting of work permit to migrant workers. Syiem said, “We are serious about the issue.”

According to him, the issue is a serious matter which comes at a time when the community is grappling with identity issues due to influx of immigrants.

“The Executive Committee (EC) opposed the intention of the Central government to grant work permit to outsiders,” he said.

Commenting on the ongoing contentious issue of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Syiem maintained that the view of the District Council should be sought especially in Scheduled areas.

Boundary dispute

On the boundary dispute with Assam, the KHADC will revive the boundary dispute committee and the committee will be given three months’ time to submit a report to the EC.

“We need to collect documents on the matter with regard to the boundary issue with Assam,” Syiem said.
