SHILLONG: Residents of Laban are peeved at the erratic power supply as there was no electricity from Saturday night till Sunday mid-afternoon and the power went off again in the evening for almost one hour.
Irene Hujon, social activist from Laban, said, “Thanks to MePDCL, no power in Laban area from last night till mid afternoon. Now again, God knows for how many more hours. This is heights considering the hefty bills we have to pay on time or else fine is imposed. Do we have to put up with all this nonsense?”
Another resident of Laban, Naba Bhattarcharjee, said the erratic power supply has been a feature of the entire locality and is irked at the department’s reply, “Transformer cannot take load.”
He said the worst affected by the daily 2-3-hour power cut are Kench’s Trace, Bishnupur and Railway Guest House area.
“MeECL must give way to a more efficient organisation. If it rains, no power. If it does not rain, no power. So what’s there in between,” he said.
