Mukul left Ampati for vested interest: James

SHILLONG: Home Minister James K Sangma on Sunday launched the campaign for by-election to Ampati constituency in South West Garo Hills and said Congress leader Mukul Sangma left Ampati for his vested interest.
James, along with candidate Clement Momin and working president SB Sangma, inaugurated the newly constructed NPP office at Latri under Ampati.
Urging the voters to reject the Congress and its leader Mukul, who left the constituency for his vested interest, James said, “Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is working hard to bring about change and development in Meghalaya and Ampati should partner and strengthen NPP so that the people of Ampati can be part of the new Government that assures to work for equal development of all regions of the state.”
Seeking mandate of the people of Ampati, James said the Congress was trying to misguide the people saying NPP and its coalition government will not last for more than six months.
“The government will complete its full term as the people  gave mandate to NPP and its coalition partners and not to the Congress party,” James said.
According to James, prior to the February 2018 polls, the Congress tried to misguide the electorate that NPP would not manage to get even nine seats in Meghalaya but the electorate rejected the propaganda and NPP got 19 seats and with the support of likeminded coalition partners formed the government with a comfortable majority.
Stating that the Congress era is history, James told the gathering that the party is divided and that is evident from the just concluded Williamnagar poll.
“There is no unity in the Congress and I believe that the electorate will reject the false propaganda. You will witness that many Congress rebels will campaign against their own candidates in this election as well,” James said.
He said people of Meghalaya have faith in NPP and Chief Minister Conrad, who has a vision and a dream for a new Meghalaya.
“In less than a month’s time after forming the government, Conrad was able to convince the Centre to release Rs 150 crore for clearing the dues of SSA teachers, which the erstwhile government failed,” James added.
