SHILLONG: Iewduh, a Khasi film directed by Pradip Kurbah that sets to explore the complicated nature of human relationships, has completed its shooting and is currently in for post-production.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, the director of award winning film Ri-Homeland of uncertainty and Onaatah- of the earth, Kurbah said the film seeks to portray about “everyday people who may be a hero to someone or the other.”
“We talk about different kind of human relationships in the market and Iewduh is a character in itself,” he added.
Line producer Tyrel R Lyngdoh said the film aims to capture the life and essence in it. “Iewduh is a space. There is so much life in it.”
However, Kurbah steered clear of portraying the negative side of Iewduh, the traditional market that is thronged by people from across the state.
The film crew expressed their gratitude to ministers and elders of Mylliemship, police personnel of Mylliem Syiemship, the shopkeepers for being accommodating to the team.
The protagonist in the movie, Albert Mawrie, who said he was “good enough” until he met Lapdiang Syiem who was the actors’ mentor.
According to Mawrie, Syiem was helpful in moulding the characters in the movie, and said, “You will see the change in it.”
As for Syiem, the characters in the film were a learning process for her apart from being interesting.
She said, “It all comes from within and trying to make things as natural as possible. It was an interesting process, which is challenging and worthwhile.”
Speaking about the response of the audience to the Khasi film industry, Kurbah said, “The audience is shying away from Khasi movies. We are still in a nascent stage.”
Stressing on the need to make films beyond Meghalaya, Kurbah informed that Onaatah is on Netflix.
