SMCH rules out circumcision of minor

GUWAHATI : Authorities in Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) have ruled out circumcision of a minor boy from Hailakandi who was reported to have been forced to undergo circumcision even as the police continues investigation into the matter to find out what had actualy happened to the boy.

Registrar of Surgery, Silchar Medical College and Hospital stated in the medical report that ‘no external cut wounds present in the penis and it is not a matter of circumcision’.

The boy who is undergoing treatment at the hospital hails from Gharmura Part I and a Class II student of Sishu Mangal Vidyapith under the Katlicherra Education Block.

Superintendent of SK Roy Civil Hospital in Hailakandi, where the boy was admitted before being referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, also stated that there was no evidence of cut by any sharp weapon in the private part, as alleged by some quarters.

The incident, as reported in a section of the media, said a forceful circumcision of a minor boy allegedly took place inside a toilet during school hours on May 7.

As soon as the matter came to light, the police swung into action and registered a case 92/18 under Sections 326/506/294/34 of Indian Penal Code and Section 75 of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. On investigation it was found that there was no evidence of circumcision.

Investigation is on to find out the facts as to what actually happened on the day of the incident, said Superintendent of Police of Hailakandi district , Mohneesh Mishra.
