SHILLONG: Cabinet Minister Comingone Ymbon inspected the Meghalaya House in Vellore following grievances of patients and their families who visit Christian Medical College (CMC) in the southern city.
The General Administration and Public Works (Building) minister was accompanied by officials from his departments.
Ymbon assessed the difficulties faced by patients as well as their families from Meghalaya. The major issue is lack of accommodation facilities.
During his two-day visit to Vellore on May 14-15, Ymbon met officials and visitors to the hospital and consider ways to solve the problems.
The minister suggested building another Meghalaya House for the convenience of patients and those accompanying them.
Ymbon said he would take up the issue with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and urge him to allocate funds to construct a Meghalaya House in Vellore.
Currently, Meghalaya House in Vellore is situated at Sathuvachari and is also known as “Spring of Hope” cottage.
The total area of the present Meghalaya House is 15K sq ft and has only 10 cottages consisting of three rooms, which include a room, a kitchen and a toilet.
The minister also found out that the Meghalaya House also lacks employees.
According to George Edward, GAD officer posted at Meghalaya House Vellore, patients visiting CMC for their treatment will not be less than 80. Chief Engineer F. Marbaniang and Executive Engineer, B. Phira accompanied the minister for the inspection.
