Himanta elected Badminton Asia vice president

GUWAHATI:  Badminton Association of India president, Himanta Biswa Sarma, was unanimously elected vice-president of Badminton Asia during the annual general meeting of Badminton Asia in Bangkok on Thursday, a press statement issued by Assam Badminton Association here, said.

Sarma is also the chairman of Para Badminton Committee in the Badminton Asia Confederation and the president of Assam Badminton Association.

“This is a happy moment for the badminton fraternity to make Badminton India stronger in Asia. India is now emerging as a badminton powerhouse not only in Asia but across the world,” the statement said.

 

Assam Badminton Association secretary and BAI secretary (event), Omar Rashid took part as an observer at the annual general meeting which discussed among other issues, allotment for Badminton Asia tournaments in 2018-19 and future development programmes in Asian countries.
