SHILLONG: James Sylliang, the rebel leader of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), said on Wednesday that he would quit the party.
Sylliang, who raised his voice against the alleged fund misuse in the KHADC and chief executive member PN Syiem, dissolved the PDF’s Mawhati zonal committee after discussions with local leaders.
He told reporters on Wednesday that he would also withdraw his support to the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) in the KHADC.
“We would not like to talk about being dropped as an Executive Member but it is about the suspension for one year,” he said and added that the leaders of the zonal committee found that he spoke nothing against the party.
“It is understandable that it is a one-man show. How do I stay in such a party?” Syiem is the chairman of PDF.
According to Sylliang, many leaders in the zonal committee felt it was pointless to stay in the party and asserted that the one-year suspension was uncalled for as he was also preparing for the council election in 2019.
Terming PDF as ‘Pynshngain Dictatorship Front’ as none of the executive members were aware of the use of Rs 28 crore for council assets, he further said the president of PDF, Ivanlumlang Marbaniang, was “only a puppet and not the decision of the president to suspend him”.
As for joining other parties, he said it was up to the leaders to decide the crucial matter.

Waiting for the session
As for the signature campaign demanding clarification on the misappropriation of Rs 28 crore Sylliang claimed that many MDCs are waiting for the KHADC session.
