Principal clarifies on DC’s school visit
SHILLONG: The Principal of Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Tura has clarified about the recent visit of West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner to the institution during which he had sought action against teachers who did not turn up for duty despite students being present.Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh during his visit to the school on May found out that students of the higher secondary (Science Stream) were in class without any teacher. This prompted him to direct the Principal to issue a show cause to those teachers who did not turn up for work. “It is true that the Deputy Commissioner visited our school on May 16. But at the time of his visit almost all the teaching and non-teaching staff had reached the school. But unfortunately the Science Stream assistant lecturer who was to take the first period did not turn up in time. I have given a show cause notice and they had replied to my notice the next day itself,” clarified the principal.
Village head counters HYC on truant health staff
SHILLONG: The Sordar of Umpdem in West Khasi Hills condemned the statement of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Mairang circle and Umpdem unit who alleged that the staff of the sub-centre in the village were irregular. In a statement issued here, the Sordar, Nikolas Kharkongor, claimed that the staff are regular, hard working and dedicated. He maintained that the staff has to look after 10 other remote villages such as Sohmylleng, Umdiengkhied, Nongkhla, Mawkhap which falls under Umpdem circle.
Bharat Scouts & Guides
training to be held
SHILLONG: The Combined Basic Training (scoutmaster/guide captain) organised by the Bharat Scouts and Guides, East Khasi Hills, will be held from May 21 to 26. The training is organised under the Financial Assistance of the Voluntary Action Fund scheme through the office of the Deputy Commissioner of the district. The training is dedicated to promote scouting and guiding in all schools which will enable them to open or run scouts and guides units in their respective schools with a purpose to contribute to the overall development of students. It also aims to create opportunity for boys and girls to help them excel in their talents.V aledictory function of the Combined Basic Course Training, 2018, will be held on May 26 at the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides, state headquarters, at 12 noon in which PS Dkhar, DC will be the chief guest.
Sohryngkham school celebrates 100 years
SHILLONG: The Sohryngkham Presbyterian Lower Primary School celebrated its centenary on Friday. The school was established in the year 1918 by the missionaries of Presbyterian Church, Mawkhar. MDC of Sohryngkham Constituency, Pyniaid Sing Syiem hoped the school will progress in the years to come even as the government is formulating the education policy. Speaking on the occasion as chief guest MLA Mawryngkneng, David Nongrum lauded the managing committee in serving the educational needs of the people
Row over illegal signboard
Shillong: Pelcy Snaitang, Manager of 7 Kpoh Snaitang Clan, informed that on May 12, a meeting was held at Trongpleng village in South West Khasi Hills in connection with illegal erection of a signboard at Mawpait-Trongpleng village by Donboklang Kharlyngdoh.
Later, as decided in the meeting, the illegal signboard was removed from the village. However, while the signboard was being removed from the place, one person from the village abused them and attempted to assault the women. Pelcy stated that the FIR which was submitted by Donboklang Kharlyngdoh against Arman Rangdkhiew, Headman, Trongpleng village, and eigh others was baseless as they were not involved.
Global Day of Prayer
TURA: ‘Global Day of Prayer’ is being observed on Sunday in all five districts of Garo Hills to mark the Pentecost Day- the 50th day after Christ’s Resurection, where Christian faithful will come together and pray on global and national issues at different churches and other venues. Prayer will be held from 3 pm at United Christian Association (UCA) Church in New Tura, from 2 pm at United Christian Association (UCA) Church, Pennuel, from 2:30 pm at Ramke Memorial Girls’ School in Baghmara, from 2 pm at Belpara Baptist Church in Resubelpara, also from 2 pm at Catholic Parish in Rongjeng and from 3 pm at Ampatigre Baptist Church in Ampati.
Immunisation programme
Shillong: The District Medical & Health Officer, East Khasi Hills District has informed that the Department of Health & Family Welfare, East Khasi Hills, Shillong will conduct the Special Intensified Mission Indradhanush Programme under Gram Swaraj Abhiyan in the district from May 21- 25. The goal of the programme is to provide immunisation to children below 2 years of age and also for pregnant women.
Price of SK Oil revised
JOWAI: The price of SK Oil has been revised and fixed with immediate effect. Wholesale price from Jowai and Thadlaskein depots will be Rs 26.80 per litre while wholesale price from Shangpung outlet will be Rs 28.95 per litre. The retail price in Jowai and Thadlaskein will be Rs 28.75 per litre while that in Shangpung is Rs 31.10 per litre.
Unclaimed body
Shillong: The decomposed body of a man at the morgue at Civil Hospital is yet to be claimed. A police notice said the age could not be ascertained but the man was wearing blue jeans and T-shirt and multi-coloured shoes. The body was found inside the forest near Shillong-Dawki road. The notice said for identifying the body, the contact number is 0364-2222277.
