Biodiversity Day celebrated in JH

JOWAI: The Office of the Divisional Forest Officer in collaboration with the Office of the Block Development Officer, Laskein C&RD Block celebrated International Biodiversity Day at St Dominic Higher Secondary School in Mookyndeng on Tuesday.
As part of the celebration, the DFO Office conducted a Drawing and Painting competition for the students.
Altogether 10 schools under Laskien Block took part in various competitions.  The BDO also organised cultural-themed competitions such as playing of traditional instruments, folk songs and traditional group songs.
An awareness programme signaled the end of the celebrations followed by a prize distribution which was graced by the Extra Additional Commissioner of Jowai Y Mawlong who was in attendance as the chief guest. Forest Officer H Lato spoke on the importance of conserving biodiversity for sustaining livelihood and the need to establish a biodiversity management committee in each and every village.
Laskein BDO Ferdinand Basan stressed on the need to conserve natural resources and stated that both Biodiversity as well as culture are important and are endangered.
