KHNAM conducts checking of labour licences
SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) youth wing conducted a check on labour licences of construction laborers working at 4 project sites of the government at Mawkasiang on Thursday. When contacted, the president of the youth wing Thomas Passah said, “More than 150 labourers do not have Labour license. He added there were labourers who were ordered to stop working while others were given time. The inspection was carried out at Arts and Culture project site, Tourism project construction site and two sites of Public health. According to the Passah, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) should do away with the Executive Member (EM) in charge of Labour. He criticized the present Executive Committee (EC) of the KHADC for not ‘doing its duty’ and relying on NGOs for inspection. Passah said they will meet the CEM KHADC PN Syiem and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to discuss the matter. On the other hand, he also urged the local indigenous people to take up manual labour and not shy away from it.
