Enforcement of the Cinematograph Act, 1952
SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioners of Ri Bhoi District and West Khasi Hills have informed that as per the Cinematograph Act, 1952 Central Board of Film Certification (CNFC) is the sole authority for certification of films for public exhibition in India. Under the provision of this act, all films, videos, advertisement, trailers, promos, video songs and any other visual presentation of public exhibition must be certified before public exhibition throughout the territorial boundary of the country. The CBFC, Guwahati Regional Office has been entrusted with these tasks for the states of North East. The screening of visual contents which have not been certified by CBFC amount to violation of the section 7 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952 and will be punishable with imprisonment for a term which will not be less than 3 months, but may extend to 3 years and with a fine not be less than Rs.20,000, but may extend to Rs.1,00,000 and in case of continuing offence for which a further fine which may extend to Rs.20,000 for each day during which the offence continues.
Monitoring Committee for racial discrimination
Shillong: The Deputy Commissioners of Ri Bhoi District and Jaintia Hills have informed that pursuant to judgment of the Supreme Court, a Monitoring Committee has been constituted in ministry of Home Affairs for monitoring and redressal of issue, grievances relating to racial discrimination face by the northeastern people residing in different parts of the country. Therefore any person or group of persons or communities hailing from the district who claim to be victims or have faces any act of racial abuse, racial atrocities, racial violence, racial discrimination in any part of the country, may send their complaints at the e-mail : [email protected].
Legal literacy programme held
Shillong:Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority under Access to Justice (NE&JK) Project in collaboration with Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice, conducted a one-day training & sensitisation of headmen on May 22 at Mawsynram C&RD Block Development Office and on May 23 at Mawkynrew C&RD Block Development Office. The purpose of the training is to sensitised the Headmen on legal literacy. The topics covered under this training were FIR, RTI, Women’s Rights, Children’s Rights, Fundamental Rights, Marriage Laws and access to justice through free legal aid service. The programme was chaired by Wanda Wainia Wann, Project Coordinator, A2J (NE&JK) and inaugurated by the Block Development Officer , E Warjri and L Tariang in the presence of the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer., Bader Jehan, New Delhi. The programme benefitted the participants which includes the headmen, chairman and secretary of different village council which is under this Block.
World Honey Bee Day observed
TURA/khliehriat: World Honey Bee Day was celebrated by the District Horticulture Officer, South Garo Hills, at DRDA Hall in Baghmara on Thursday. Deputy Commissioner of the district, S N Marak was the Chief Guest on the occasion in the presence of other district officials. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest said that bee-keeping is an effortless activity and every farmer should have at least one –two boxes in their backyard. Since the Government of India is striving to achieve in Doubling the Income of farmers by 2022, she said bee-keeping is one of the activity that will help in achieving the goal. Meanwhile in Khliehriat, World Honey Bee Day was observed at the Agriculture Training Hall organised by the office of the District Horticulture Officer, Khliehriat. M S Lhuid, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District graced the occasion as Chief Guest.Speaking at the gathering, the DC said that the Government from time to time is providing training to farmers on Bee Keeping to improvise upon the traditional method with a scientific one. He also asserted that farmers who have availed training on bee-keeping must apply their knowledge to increase the production and also to improve their economic condition.
Legal awareness campaign held
TURA: A two-day legal awareness campaign with the objective to sensitise and empower women of their rights concluded on Friday at the BJN Community Hall in Resubelpara. The advocacy campaign organised by Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSWC) in coordination with District Social Welfare Office, Resubelpara was sponsored by National Commission for Women, New Delhi. Addressing the inaugural session as the Chief Guest, Deputy Commissioner In-Charge & ADC, AVD Shira briefed the gathering about POCSO Act, Domestic Violence Act and also highlighted the prevailing social legal issues against women and children. She stated that legal literacy will enable women to know their rights and help them to approach concerned department in seeking justice. The DC, in-charge also said that in order to alleviate social crimes, more sensitisation programmes on women rights and women empowerment should be formulated in the interior areas since most cases have been reported from those areas. She therefore pressed upon the mothers’ union, SHGs and NGOs to organise such programme in the regions so as to promote women welfare. Earlier, Chairperson, MSWC and Padmashree, Theilin Phanbuh highlighted the role of the Women’s commission. While pointing out the negative usage of the internet, the chairperson said that it is the responsibility of parents to ensure the safety of their children and urged them to monitor the contents being watched in the internet.
