JOWAI: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has blamed the previous government for pending water supply projects in the state.
In Jaintia Hills alone, the Greater Raliang Water Supply Scheme, the Greater Rymbai Water Supply Scheme and the Greater Jowai Water Supply Scheme are the major projects which are yet to see the light of the day.
”The previous government kept these projects pending for many years and it has become a problem for the present government to tackle”, Sangma said while speaking at a felicitation held at Rymbai village on Saturday.
However, Sangma assured that his government will find appropriate solution to the problem for the benefit of the people.
Sangma, who inspected the project site of the Greater Rymbai Water Supply Scheme along with Revenue and Social Welfare Minister, Kyrmen Shylla and Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbai assured the people of East Jaintia Hills that he will take up the matter with the PHE Minister.
The Rymbai Water Scheme is an important project as people are forced to buy water.
The Greater Rymbai Water Supply Scheme was meant to provide 70 liters of water to the residents of Rymbai, Khliehriat East, Khliehriat West, Dkhiah East, Dkhiah West and Moowakhu besides Ladrymbai Datsimpein, Ladrymbai B, Ladrymbai Dongwah and Ladrymbai-Rymbai Road.
The project was initiated in 2006 and the construction started in 2007. The original estimate was Rs 17.43 crore which was revised by 57.49 per cent (Rs 27.45 crore).
The expenditure on the project till March 2016 was Rs 19.67 crore.
Since 2013, another revised estimate was proposed and the people of the area hoped that the new government led by Conrad will approve the revised estimated for completion of the project.
