Army have been put on standby in violence-hit Shillong

SHILLONG: The Army have been asked to remain on standby and District Administration  may ask  the Army to conduct flag marches in the city where tension is running high. Curfew was clamped in the entire capital city  from  10 PM to 5 AM in the morning.

East Khasi Hills  district, Deputy Commissioner,  P S Dkhar said that the administration has asked the army to be on standby.

When asked about the insufficient deployment of  police personnel in violence affected areas , he said that the present deployment would suffice to tackle the situation and more forces would be deployed, if the need arose.

Meanwhile, the SP (Shillong City) Steve Rynjah was hit by a rod at Motphran on Friday.  He was injured in his back and hand and later he was taken to Shillong Civil Hospital for treatment.
