NGH bans sale of tobacco to minors

SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner of North Garo Hills has prohibited the selling of cigarettes and other tobacco products to persons below 18 years of age, at the market places and an in an area within a radius of 100 yards of any educational institutions.
The vendors and shopkeepers selling such products must put up a notice containing warning “Sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products to the person below 18 years of age is strictly prohibited and a punishable offence.” The DC further informed that any person who contravenes the provisions will be punished with fine.
