SHILLONG: Congress MLAs from Punjab met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday to seek information on the current situation in the state.
The MLAs were sent by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to assess the ground situation.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said, “Everybody is concerned about the issue and therefore they have come to ask and find out what is happening and we have briefed them that the government is doing everything to protect every life and maintain law and order.”
The chief minister also clarified on misinformation doing the rounds in the social media in other parts of the country and around the world by informing the MLAs that they were not correct. Punjab Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said no wrong message should be sent through social media and that no message should go out which will affect the communal tension.
Ravneet Singh, another MLA, said it is not the time to relocate the Harijans and a case is going on in the court and they got the stay order.
According to him, maintaining peace is priority for both the governments as many North East students are also studying in colleges and Universities in Punjab.
“We have made special security arrangements for the students and police have also been asked to keep vigil,” Ravneet said.
Asked as to who are behind the trouble, Ravneet said there must be something, while another MLA Kuldeep Singh Vaid said disgruntled people are in every society.
