NCM member Manjit Singh Rai takes stock in Shillong

SHILLONG: Member of the   National Commission for Minorities, Manjit Singh Rai on Wednesday met Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma and expressed satisfaction over the improvement of law and order situation in the city.

Rai in the morning also held a meeting with the Chief Secretary, DGP and other government officials to discuss about the law and order situation in the city.

Speaking to media persons, Manjit Singh Rai, also made a clarion call for all the communities to live together with peace and harmony

Rai also maintained that a small altercation led to the clashes but two concerned parties later compromised but some anti-social elements made the whole situation worse.

Lauding the State Government and State police for handing the situation well, he also said that the Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) who are stationed in the city should remain here till the situation gets normal

Rai, however, refused to divulge his findings and added that he would report everything before the Commission on Thursday.

Later, he also visited Punjabi Lane (Them Iew Mawlong) and assessed the situation.

After assessing the situation, he said that the matter of relocation of the colony was under study.

On the other hand, a member of the United Sikh group told media persons that they had requested the Meghalaya Home Minister for a discussion with the senior tribal chiefs of Meghalaya over the entire matter.

He also said that they had asked the State Government for a permission for re-construction of the entire colony.
