ADB to help govt train youths

SHILLONG: The state government has envisaged a project to train 30,000 youth in different skills “to suit the need for international placements”, said Additional Chief Secretary MS Rao on Friday.
Rao said this on the sidelines of a meeting between Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and a delegation from the Asian Development Bank led by Vikram Harsha Annamraju.
They discussed about collaborating with universities and institutes to start Japanese language course and skill-oriented training for youths of Meghalaya, a statement from the chief minister’s office said in a statement.
The delegation proposed skill-based employment opportunities in Japan.
“The cultural similarities and rich human resources of the state will be to the advantage of Japan, which will boost employment opportunities,” the statement quoted Sangma as saying. He assured all cooperation and support.
The chief minister also suggested cooperation and business opportunities in sectors like agriculture, horticulture, food processing, sports, tourism and health.
