SHILLONG: Mobile internet service in the city continues to be suspended even as it was restored in Garo Hills after four days on Tuesday.
Though the government held a review meeting on Tuesday to assess law and order, the curfew timing in Shillong was not changed. There was no decision to restore mobile internet either after the Jowai incident.
A meeting will be held on Wednesday to assess the situation again.
As per the last order, the district magistrate had relaxed curfew in areas under Lumdiengjri Police Station – Jaiaw, Mawkhar, Umsohsun, Riatsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Mission, Mawprem, Lumdiengjri, Lamavilla, Qualapatty, Wahthapbru, Sunny Hill, Cantonment, Mawlong Hat including Cantonment Beat House areas (excluding localities beyond Umshyrpi bridge)- from 7 am to 6 pm. It will be promulgated again from 6 pm.
Night curfew will start from 9pm to 5 am in the Shillong agglomeration.
In Garo Hills, internet service was shut down from Friday afternoon to keep a check on rumour mongers.
After witnessing the large scale trouble that broke out in Shillong last week, where the flames of hatred were stoked through social media by vested interest groups, the government acted swiftly to prevent a repeat in Garo Hills and clamped down on the internet service.
The service was restored as there was no disruption to law and order.
