Security force reduction likely from Monday

SHILLONG: Three companies of central armed paramilitary forces were withdrawn due to the improved law and order in Shillong but other additional forces may remain till June 18.
Chief Secretary Y Tsering said on Tuesday that two to three companies of additional forces from Assam were withdrawn while the remaining forces will ensure law and order in the city.
He said additional central forces were to remain till June 18 but depending on the situation, the forces will continue to stay.
According to police, 15 additional companies of central paramilitary forces were deployed while five companies of central forces were brought from Garo Hills.
In addition, there are six companies of SF-10 personnel and two battalions of MLP stationed in the city.
The chief secretary said the unrest in the city has affected the economy of the state.
Besides the government losing on taxes, the tourist flow was also affected. Traders and farmers are the worst affected due to closure of markets at various intervals.
