Landslides disrupt train services on Lumding – Badarpur hill section in Assam

GUWAHATI: Landslides triggered by heavy rains in as many as five places in the Lumding – Badarpur hill section under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) have affected the normal train running in that section, a Railway official informed here.

Landslides have occurred between Dautohaja – Phiding, at Phiding station yard, between Phiding – Mahur, between Jatingalampur – New Harangajao and washout between tunnels No. 9 and 10.

All the landslides have occurred between 01-30 A.M. and 03-30 A.M. on Thursday resulting in suspension of train running over that section. Guwahati – Silchar Fast passenger was controlled at Lumding from 5-17 A.M. while Silchar-Kanchanjungha Express  had be controlled at Lumding. Silchar – Guwahati fast passenger has been cancelled on date.

Agartala – Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express had to be controlled at Badarpur. The railway claims that no passenger train has been stranded within the affected sections.

Divisional Railway Manager / Lumding rushed to the site for monitoring the situation and restoration work. Meanwhile, restoration work has been completed in three locations out of five affected in the hill section. Track fit certificate has been issued in the following locations : between Dautohaja – Phiding,  at Phiding station yard and  between Phiding – Mahur.

Restoration work is going on will full swing  in all the remaining three locations: between New Haflong – Jatingalampur, between New Harangajao – Jatingalampur, and between New Harangajao – Jatingalampur
