TURA: A non-Garo MDC, Sofiur Rahman who was holding the post of Chairman of the Forest Advisory Board in the GHADC on Friday resigned from the post due to pressure from various Garo organisations.
A reliable source informed that Rahman submitted his resignation on Friday which was also accepted by the Chief Executive Member, Dipul Marak on the same day.
The appointment of Rahman to the Chairman’s post had angered Garo organisations like the GSU, FKJGP, AYWO and ADE who have been demanding his removal. On Friday last week, the organisations had given GHADC authorities one week’s time to remove Rahman from the post.
However, even before the deadline was to expire, the organisations again met the CEM on Wednesday and extended the deadline by another week until Wednesday next week.
