Resubelpara: United Christian Peace Forum (UCPF), Northern Zone HQ Resubelpara, which has been working for the peace in the region, organised a one-day general meeting cum prayer gathering on Friday at Honey-Full village in North Garo Hills.
Leaders of major Christian churches and many others gathered and offered prayers to sustain peace and tranquility in the state. The prime objective of the prayer was to bring back permanent peace in Garo Hills.  The next meeting will be convened in Adokgre in September.
The UCPF helped in bringing many militants to the mainstream.
The surrendered militants were from LAEF, AMEF, ASAK ANCA, ANVC (B), UALA and GNLA.
The first mass surrender took place in Garo Hills before Home Minister and DGP when GNLA leader Philiport D Shira and 15 others joined the mainstream in the first week of May 2016.
This paved the way for others to come forward.
According to zonal secretary of UCPF, KD Momin, one Baptist pastor from Rari Ronggopgre under Bajengdoba police station was killed by unidentified militants for participating in the peace committee. But no ex -gratia was provided by the government for his sacrifice.
