Domestic workers’ day observed in Tura

TURA: The International Domestic Workers’ Day was observed on Saturday by the Ferrando Domestic Workers Alliance Tura at District Auditorium Tura for domestic workers in and around the town.
 Additional Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Mary T Sangma was the chief guest on the occasion in the presence of District Child Protection Officer, Junichi K Marak and Rt. Rev Andrew R Marak, the Bishop of Tura.
Speaking on the occasion the chief guest expressed her concerns at the plight of the domestic workers who sometimes are victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and injustices such as low wages and violation of their rights and dignity.
District Child Protection Officer, Junichi K Marak highlighted the rights of children and the challenge faced as child domestic workers in the society and the availability of child helpline and protection.  
Tura Bishop Rt. Rev Andrew R Marak appreciated the hard work and commitment of the domestic workers who are always behind the curtain contributing for the smooth running of a family and the society at large and called upon them to continue to give the best of their ability.
