SHILLONG: UDP working president, Paul Lyngdoh maintained that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance will last the entire term as it is comprised of parties and individuals who are fed up with the misrule of the Congress.
Downplaying Congress leader, Mukul Sangma’s comments that the NPP-led government will fall anytime, Lyngdoh said, “I do not know what kind of calculations he has got but I think this time he is trying to be a soothsayer who is frustrated.”
Asked to comment on Sangma’s remark on Lyngdoh as someone who has gone out of circulation, Lyngdoh said it is the usual style of Mukul Sangma to be dismissive of other leaders.
Oozing confidence as he looks back at political history, Lyngdoh said, “To describe somebody as out of circulation would mean that even Indira Gandhi had lost the elections of 1977 and would you say she was out of circulation? She was back in power after two years.
“Many other political leaders have lost the elections at the national and regional levels but losing elections does not mean you are out of circulation,” he added.
“As far as I am concerned, I have more time to be proactive in the party, shaping the policies and programmes of the UDP which is a major ally in the present government. Therefore, a lot of the issues that we have and are taking up as a party have been at my instance,” he said.
Commenting on UDP Ranikor circle who threatened to join the Congress, he said “We have not met them as a party, we will meet and discuss with them on the matter.”
