SHILLONG: Shillong police have arrested a person from Uttar Pradesh in connection with the murder of a 28-year-old nurse in the city.
Earlier, police had arrested another person believed to be involved in the murder of Leiyaton Soro, who was a nurse at Nazareth Hospital here.
Soro’s body was found at Ryndangbriew viewpoint at Umiam on May 29.
East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak informed reporters here on Monday that a team of Shillong police arrested the co-accused from Uttar Pradesh and brought him here. He was produced in court on Monday.
Marak said that according to the statement of the person arrested earlier, the duo had killed Soro with chloroform and wrapped her body inside a refrigerator carton.
As both the accused worked in an electrical shop, they used the carton to wrap the body so that people would not bother about what they were carrying inside it.
“The duo later took the body to the area near the Ryndangbriew viewpoint (at Umiam) and dumped her body. The carton was later torn into pieces near Polo side,” the SP said.
Marak further said the accused who was arrested earlier had put the blame on the co-accused for the murder and police would record the statement of the co-accused to corroborate his statement.
“It appears to be a bloodless murder and we will close the case very soon,” he said.
