Infant dies after being put inside a bucket by criminal

SHILLONG: A three-week-old baby died after a hardened criminal had allegedly snatched the baby and put it inside a bucket in a residence in Mission compound in the city.

East KhasI Hills SP Davis Marak said that the incident happened on Tuesday morning   at around 2.30 AM when a man who had covered his face forcefully broke into the house of a resident of Mission Compound.

The masked person assaulted the woman who was sleeping and snatched her baby and ran away

The members of the family called up the police as they felt that the baby was  kidnapped and police conducted a thorough search only to the find the child in a bucket.

According to Superintendent of Police the baby was alive and was shifted to hospital , the baby was  pronounced dead at the hospital.

Later, in the evening, the accused who is suspected to be involved in the crime was arrested by the police  from the city

Reacting to a query, the SP said that the bucket had some water and police felt that the baby might have died due to exposure  to cold. However, the postmortem report was still being awaited

Meanwhile, sources said that the accused who has been arrested was a hardened criminal with different cases being registered against him.
