NONGSTOIN: Meghalaya home minister, James K. Sangma chaired a meeting to review the implementation of schemes in West Khasi Hills district on Tuesday.
“We are here not to find faults but to discuss better ways implementing schemes that benefit the general public at large” Sangma said.
The home minister is on a two-day visit to the district.
Sangma further said that the purpose of holding the review meeting was to discuss how the schemes could be properly implemented within the stipulated time and by adhering to the guidelines of various line departments.
The minister’s visit was part of an innovative programme of the MDA government under which Cabinet ministers would have to visit one district every three months.
The review meeting held at the conference hall in DC’s office was attended by MLAs M.Byrsat, G. Myrthong and B.Nongsiej, superintendent of police, G.D.Kharwanlang, block development officers and district heads.
Earlier, West Khasi Hills deputy commissioner incharge, K.L.Nongbri gave the welcome address.
On Wednesday, the minister will visit the district urban water supply department, civil hospital and district jail.
Awareness programme
A three-day awareness programme cum workshop on district selection committee got under way here from Tuesday.
The programme was organised by the Mawshynrut civil sub-division, Mawshynrut Unemployed Association, NGOs, in collaboration with the office of the deputy commissioner, West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin.
R.Brahma, extra assistant commissioner, Mawshynrut welcomed the participants and briefed the objectives of the programme held under Chief Minister’s Youth Development Scheme.
Others who spoke at the function were member secretary, DSC Nongstoin, Christ King Secondary School principal, Fr Sebastian Tirkey, Mawshynrut Civil Sub-Division Demand Committee secretary, K.Sohshang and Mawshynrut Unemployed Association member, A.Thongni.
Resource persons, H.H.Ahmed and D.Lamar among others encouraged the youths not to give up but to work hard and be more competitive.
