4th International Day of Yoga celebrated across Meghalaya

SHILLONG: The 4th International Day of Yoga was celebrated across the state on Thursday with various programmes and events promoting the practice of the ancient Indian discipline which upholds a healthy lifestyle, fitness and mentality.
The Meghalaya Pradesh BJP celebrated International Yoga Day at a state party office here.
Assam Rifles conducted a mass yoga demonstration at the Assam Rifles sports complex in Laitkor to commemorate the day. CAPF personnel also attended the celebrations.
Trained yoga instructors from Patanjali Yogpeeth and Assam Rifles Training Centre conducted the yoga session which was also attended by BSF, CRPF and CISF personnel. A yoga session for students of Assam Rifles Public school and NCC cadets was also conducted at Assam Rifles Public School.
A weeklong yoga programme which kicked off on June 15 under notable instructors – Akash Gupta and Vikash Rathore from Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidhalaya Institute, Haridwar concluded on Thursday.
The programme was jointly organised by the NSS and NCC units of BBS College in collaboration with Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School.
The Border Security Force (BSF) organised yoga camps at FTR headquarters, BSF campus and its under command sectors and units.
More than 3000 men in uniform including officers and jawans participated in the celebrations all along the International border of Meghalaya.
L Mohanti, IPS IG BSF inaugurated the yoga day celebrations by lighting a lamp alongside UK Nayal, DIG/PRO and other senior officers.
All yoga sessions were conducted under the guidance of trained instructors. Troops deployed at zero line on the international border also participated in the camps conducted at border outposts.
The weeklong yoga centric activities of Shillong Cantonment from June 14 concluded on Thursday under the supervision of experts from ‘Art of Living’. Approximately 450 participants took part in the week long events.
In Garo Hills, the 4th International Day of Yoga was observed under the theme ‘Yoga for Peace’ at the Indoor Stadium in Tura. West Garo Hills additional deputy commissioner and Deputy Commissioner in charge, A.M Sangma attended the event as the chief guest. The programme was organised by the District Medical and Health Officer, West Garo Hills in collaboration with Marwari Yuva Munch and Lions Club of Tura.
The office of the Field Outreach Bureau in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in association with the government of India organised a special outreach programme in Tura as part of the yoga day celebrations at Kendriya Vidyalaya.
The Eastern Air Command Headquarters in Upper Shillong also organised an event to mark the day. It was inaugurated by Air Marshal Rajesh Kumar.
A yoga demonstration by the trained Air Force Ground Training Instructors was held while all attendees practised various yoga asanas. The hour long programme was attended by over 400 participants of different age groups. The students and staff of Kendriya Vidyalaya as well as Air Force School, Upper Shillong also participated in the celebrations.
Hill View Secondary School, Assam Regimental Centre, Happy Valley organised a programme attended by 200 students, teachers, ARC families and officers.
With an aim to sensitize and lead individuals towards experiencing better living through yoga, IIM Shillong organised a programme under the tutelage of ‘Ýog Sadhana Mission’ founders, Swami Chidananda Ji Maharaj and Swami Dhirendracharya.
India Tourism, Shillong in association with Shri Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture, Shillong also organised an event at Aurobindo Ashram. Eighty five participants were present during the event. The programme kicked off at 7am and successfully concluded at 8:30 am.
Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad attended the programme as chief guest and spoke on the importance of yoga.
Taal organised a free yoga and meditation camp in collaboration with Heartfullness Institute at the Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha in the city.
Inputs were given to the participants by yoga Guru Pradeep Dutta, meditation practitioner Sushank Agarwal and zumba and fitness instructor Zin Vanita Vadera on various aspects of yoga, meditation and overall fitness.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Thomas Jones Synod College, Jowai celebrated Yoga Day by organising a yoga session under the theme ‘Yoga for Peace and Harmony’ at Thomas Jones Synod College in Jowai.
The North-Eastern Hill University organised a programme at the multi-use Convention Hall in the NEHU campus from 7:30 am to 10 am.
An exhibition of posters was also organised at the venue during which different asanas, pranayams were displayed on the benefits of yoga.
NEIGRIHMS took part in the celebration by organizing a yoga session under the guidance of Soram Chinglen.
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Shillong, in association with Patanjali Yog Trust, Shillong and supported by Metallica-Sargam Sports & Cultural Club organized Yoga Day near Meghalaya Legislative Assembly complex at Rilbong from 7 am onwards.
As many as 50 people took part in the yoga session.
The NSS Unit of the ICFAI University Meghalaya, Shillong Campus organised a daylong yoga workshop to advocate the ancient Indian practice. Forty volunteers along with the teaching and non-teaching staff took part.
International Yoga Day was observed in North-Eastern Sector (NES), CRPF. The ministry of home affairs (MHA) had designated the DG, Assam Rifles as the nodal agency in Meghalaya. More than 100 officers participated in the yoga day at Laitkor.
IGP NES CRPF Prakash D who participated in the yoga day said more such events will be conducted in NES in future to keep the force alert and agile.
Hill View Secondary School, Assam Regimental Centre, Happy Valley, celebrated International Yoga Day. The occasion was graced by Yoga instructor Poonam. Around 200 students and teachers and the ARC families and officers participated in the celebrations.
The 4th International Yoga Day was also held on the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH) campus in Mawdiangdiang. The event started at 9 am with a yoga session, followed by a “Run for Health” which was flagged off by C. Daniala, head of radiology department, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, from NEIAH to NEIGRIHMS. The programme ended with a scientific session.
As part of the celebration, a quiz competition was held on June 19 at NEIAH where students from different colleges of Shillong participated while an essay competition was held on Wednesday.
The institute also participated in a panel discussion on yoga held at Doordarshan Kendra Shillong on Tuesday. Members of the institute also imparted yoga training to students camping in Assam Rifles Public School.
Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Sohra also celebrated International Yoga Day on the Ashrama premises on Thursday. About 290 students participated in the celebration.
The participants comprised 140 NCC Cadets of the RKM Higher Secondary Section, Sohra. B. Kharjana, the SDPO, Sohra Civil Subdivision, was the chief guest on the occasion.
