Nongpoh: The newly elected Nongpoh Town Committee will pursue for early completion of two centrally-sponsored projects here with the MDA government.
The projects which were earlier scheduled to be completed in the year 2012 are yet to be implemented.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Rayonald Kharkamni, the general secretary of Nongpoh Town Committee, expressed concern about the state of affairs of the impending projects here.
The Urban Affairs department had awarded two important central projects – “Urban Housing for poor project at Umbuda, sanctioned in 2008 and the Solid Waste Management Project at Umshangling, sanctioned during 2008-09 at the cost of Rs.6 crore.
The town committee has been pursuing the housing project and the department has assured to complete the project with financial assistance from Housing for Urban Development Corporation. But till date, there is no sign of restarting the project the work of which initially started in 2010.
The solid waste management project has been stalled due to fund constraint.
While tons of solid waste is being collected fom Nongpoh town, it has become a herculean task for the town to manage and dump the waste. As such, there is urgency for making the project operational at the earliest possible time.
“As a new town body, we are giving our 100 per cent in making Nongpoh town clean, beautiful and smart.
With the present government under the leadership of our visionary CM and Urban Minister, we hope they will give their attention and undertake the task to complete the projects immediately” he added.
