SHILLONG: The Congress is not down and out following the decision of the Ranikor MLA MM Danggo to leave the party.
The party leadership feels that the Congress is capable of converting any crisis into opportunity.
“We are all united despite the recent development”, Congress spokesperson Zenith Sangma said.
Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Sangma admitted that there has been attempt to poach the MLAs of Congress but the party is confident of insulating its MLAs from such attempts.
“We also have confidence on all our MLAs,” he said, while accusing BJP of having a hand in poaching attempts.
He also said that NPP is applying the same formula here in Meghalaya which they had applied in Manipur on the advice and direction of the BJP.
When asked about the sudden decision of Danggo to resign from the party, Sangma said that the party has to verify if he has resigned at all and if he has done so, whether he has personally submitted the resignation letter or someone else had sent it, will be examined.
“Everything has to be verified since MLA is an elected post and any Tom, Dick and Harry cannot go and just submit the resignation,” Sangma said.
There were media reports that Danggo did not meet the Deputy Speaker Timothy Shira to submit his resignation letter.
On the other hand, senior Congress leader Ampareen Lyngdoh said that she was not sure as to whether Danggo has really resigned since she has neither spoken to him nor has she seen the resignation letter.
Maintaining that the Congress leadership has a lot of experience, she added that the party will just wait and watch the whole situation.
