Shillong/tura: NCC Directorate (NE Region) in Shillong achieved a milestone on Thursday by displaying the largest demonstration of NCC cadets performing yoga on the occasion of the 4th International Yoga Day led by Maj Gen Raju Chauhan ,ADG ,NCC Directorate, NE Region.
Over 40,000 NCC cadets spread over seven states demonstrated yoga at 463 venues in both rural and urban areas with great fervour and enthusiasm. Various dignitaries like Governor of Nagaland and others also graced the occasion.
NEIAH celebration
The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH), Shillong, also celebrated the 4th International Yoga Day on Thursday at the institute campus in Mawdiangdiang.
The event started at 9 am with a yoga session, followed by a “Run for Health” which was flagged off by Prof. C. Daniala, HoD Department of Radiology, NEIGRIHMS from NEIAH to NEIGRIHMS and it ended with a scientific session.
The session was followed by Dhanvantari Vandana performed by the students of NEIAH. The occasion was graced by Prof. Daniala as chief guest and Dr Rituparna Barooah, Associate Professor, Department of Physiology, NEIGRIHMS, as the guest of honour. A welcome note was addressed by Prof. P.K. Goswami, Director of NEIAH.
In his speech, the chief fuest expressed his views on the importance of Yoga for Health.
Tura demonstration
In Tura, the international Yoga Day was celebrated on Thursday by the Natya Samity at Babupara where a demonstration of yoga also took place.
Yoga instructor, Amalendu Roy Hajong highlighted the origin of Yoga in India since the Vedic period and its importance for human life. More than 100 people of different age group ranging from 10 to 83 years took part in the yoga practice.
Secretary of Sadananda Yoga and Cultural Centre, S.K. Saha, explained the benefits of each and every Yogamudra, Yogasana and Pranayama performed on the occasion.
