International day against drug abuse to be observed
WILLIAMNAGAR : The Secretary DLSA, Eadt Garo Hills informed that as part of observation of ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Garo Hills in collaboration with the office of the District Child Protection Unit, Williamnagar, will organise an awareness program for the students from Class IX to Class XII in the premises of the District and Session Court on June 26 from 11am. This year the theme will be “Listen first-listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe” to strengthen the UN General Assembly’s determination to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
World music day celebrated
Shillong: Each year, World Music Day is celebrated on June 21. It has become a worldwide phenomenon as countries across the world commemorate the day in their own way. The Department of Music, St Anthony’s College, Shillong on Friday celebrated the day by organizing a visitation cum musical programme, at Ferrando Transit Shelter Home, Mawlai Mawdatbaki. The staff and students of St Anthony’s College were able to bring about music awareness to the children at the shelter home and also presented gifts and other good will offerings towards the children.
NSS special camp held
SHILLONG: The National Service Scheme, Seng Khasi College Unit, organised a special camp at Mawpat recently. Different activities like socio-economic survey, painting and essay competitions on health and environmental issues, training on bee-keeping, awareness on women’s rights, free eye check-up, cultural programme, cleaning drive and friendly football match between the NSS volunteers and Mawpat youths were held.The Dorbar Shnong Mawpat, especially its executive members, women and school children in Mawpat also took part in the camp.
KV annual day celebrated
Shillong: Kendriya Vidyalaya Laitkor Peak, Shillong celebrated its annual day on June 22 with great enthusiasm at Archana Theatre AFS Laitkor Peak,Shillong. The programme was inaugurated by Chief Guest Group Captain Rajesh Kumar Yadav, Chairman VMC, with the lighting of the lamp and a welcome song by primary students. The students performed cultural activities which included group dance depicting colorful culture of different states and skit showing side effects of social networking sites. The principal S K Verma reported the curricular and co-curricular achievements of students of the past year. High achievers were distributed certificates and prizes by the chief guest.
Body found hanging
Shillong: On June 21 at about 11 am, a dead body of Rongman M Sangma (18) was found hanging in his residence at Dharamchas village in South West Garo Hills . Necessary formalities have been observed and the cadaver was sent to a hospital for post mortem examination.
Ten-year-old electrocuted
Shillong: On June 21 around 8 am, a ten-year-old boy Salman Ch Marak, reportedly died due to electrocution at Rongkhugre, Gajal village in West Khasi Hills. The matter is under enquiry.
