SHILLONG: The failure of the state government to disseminate information to the public in time regarding the special public holiday on Friday caused inconvenience to the educational institutions and other establishments in the city.
The holiday was to commemorate the arrival of Thomas Jones, father of Khasi alphabet to Sohra .
A senior government official on Saturday admitted that there was a mistake on the part of the government to communicate to the people about the public holiday in advance though it was marked in the government calendar. As there was confusion, many educational institutions remained opened.
This led HYC to close down a few educational institutions, including NIT on Friday in the city.
