Mawkyrwat: The South West Khasi Hills unit of the Khasi Student’s Union on Saturday demanded transfer of the officer In-charge of Mawkyrwat police station, B C Shadap within two weeks for slapping and abusing one of its members and insulting the union.
The incident took place on Thursday morning after Milkyson Snaitang, a member of the KSU Nongkynbah area unit and one of his friends went to the police station to apply for a domicile certificate. “We went to the police station to get the verification for the domicile certificate. A female staff told us that the officer will not be able to sign the documents as he was busy. Since I stay in Shillong, I requested her to get my documents signed. But then a policewoman intervened and shouted at me,” Snaitang said.
“Thereafter, the OC came in and without saying anything slapped me and said, ‘I know you are a KSU member and you will become a useless person or one-day end up joining the HNLC,” he said, while narrating the story.
Condemning the OC, Snaitang said, “His insulting words against me and the union made me angry because KSU never taught me to join such an underground outfit but to fight for the rights of the Jaitbynriew. Therefore, I condemn what the OC did and demand that action be taken against him”.
n Saturday marched to the police station demanding immediate transfer of the OC for provoking the youths and creating trouble in the peaceful district for no reason.
“As a union we are fighting the great cause of the Jaitbynriew through peaceful protest and if this person is still in Mawkyrwat police station and the youths from South West Khasi Hills join HNLC, he should take responsibility because he has been provoking them to join the militant outfit,” the president of KSU South West Khasi Hills, Forwardman Nongrem said, after meeting the SP at his office.
While maintaining that the KSU does not want Shadap to remain in-charge of Mawkyrwat police station, Nongrem also said the Union demanded that the OC be transferred within two weeks or face agitation.
Meanwhile, superintendent of police, HG Lyngdoh informed that the matter has been amicably settled. “I have requested the KSU to work together with the district administration to maintain peace and order in the district and they have agreed to continue working with us for the betterment of the district,” Lyngdoh said.
