Sensitisation programme on e-waste to be held
Shillong: ENVIS RP Centre (Environmental Information System Resource Partner), NEHU, Shillong established by Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF&CC, GoI) in collaboration with Rongjeng Technologies Private Limited, Guwahati, will organise a sensitisation programme on electronic waste (e-waste) Management Rules, 2016 on June 25 at NEHU, Shillong. The aim of this programme is to initiate discussions regarding the compliance of E-Waste (Management) Rules 2016 in the state and other parts of the country. The mandate of the RP centre is to create an inventory of e-waste, biomedical waste and hazardous wastes generated in the country and the state for its regular monitoring and providing ground level information to the ministry. The main participants in the programme will be NEHU, IGNOU, NIT, IIM, MSPCB, and other departments of the Government of Meghalaya.
Students’ union for early release of college activities fund
Shillong: The Tura Govt. College Students’ Union (TGCSU) in a press statement requests the early release of college’s activities fund of 2017-18 for Tura Govt. College, Tura, which is laying pending. The college students urge the authority to take up immediately the release of the college fund for the betterment of the students’ welfare of the college. They also expect that the demand will be fruitful as per the concerned of the future students and wants the govt to make sure that it will not allow it to go empty handed.
Blood donation drive by Airtel
SHILLONG: Employees and partners of telecom services provider, Bharti Airtel on Saturday donated 536 units of blood among government medical college hospital and government hospital blood banks as well as Red Cross Society blood banks across the Northeast. Camps were organised simultaneously across 14 locations including Guwahati, Tezpur, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Bongaigaon, Nalbari, Silchar, Dharmanagar, Agartala, Shillong, Aizawl, Imphal, Itanagar and Dimapur with the help of blood banks. Raveendra Desai, the chief executive officer (Assam and North East), Bharti Airtel said, “This is our 13th year of relentless service to the people of Assam and North East circle. The blood donation camps are a token gesture from our side to the community where we work and operate. We thank all our employees, their family members and all our associate partners who supported us whole heartedly to make this noble initiative a huge success.”
Intl yoga day observed
Shillong: The NSS Unit of Shillong College, observed International Yoga Day on Thursday in the college campus in collaboration with the NCC Unit and Physical Education Department of the college. The programme started with a welcome address by Dr. B. P. Tripathi, ANO NCC Unit, Shillong College and a brief speech by the Principal, Dr. K D Ramsiej. Thereafter it was followed with yoga exercises and demonstrations conducted by resource persons Girdhari Mishra, Akash Gupta and Vikash Rathour of DSVV, Department of Yoga & Health, Haridwar, India (Gayatri Pariwar, Subcentre Barapathar, Shillong). Different yoga exercises were taught to the students.
Bangladeshi national held
Shillong: Neal Sangma of Koinabhui village (WGH) lodged a complaint that on June 18 around 8 pm, a Bangladeshi national viz., Sudu Faruque (18) of Goldiripa village under Sherpur PS, Bangladesh, was apprehended at the same village and was handed over to the police at Dalu PS (WGH).
Attempt to abduct
Shillong: A twenty-eight year old woman lodged a complaint that on June 22, her ex-husband Uttam Kumar Chettri along with Timingroy Shynret attempted to abduct her while she was on her way from ICAR towards Umroi. However, the residents of Umeit village (Ri Bhoi) came to her rescue and she managed to escape.
Vehicle stolen
Shillong: On June 21 night, unknown miscreants stole a Mahindra Bolero vehicle (ML-05J-2626) belonging to Wansuklang Makdoh from 16th Mile, Byrnihat.
Minor drowns
Shillong: On June 21 around 10.15 am, a minor girl, Beganchi G Momin (6) of New Colony, Mendipathar (NGH) drowned in a pond near Mendipathar Post Office. The cadaver was fished out and sent to Resubelpara for post mortem examination.
Rickshaw capsizes
Shillong: On June 21 evening, an auto rickshaw (number not known) driven by Biangbor Mawroh (30) capsized on Nongpoh-Saiden Road. As a result, the driver sustained injuries and was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
