TURA: Teachers under the All Garo Hills 4th Teachers’ Association have submitted a memorandum to Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui urging him to look into the enhancement of their salaries on a par with the amount being received by assistant teachers.
According to the teachers, while assistant teachers were receiving Rs 9900 since April 1, 2013, 4th teachers were paid only Rs 6000. Similarly, while SSA teachers were receiving salary of Rs 20,493 with effect from January 1, 2017, 4th teachers were paid only Rs 12000 per month.
“All of us are doing the same work with the same experience and qualifications. We feel that paying us less is discrimination,’ they said, adding that their salaries should immediately be enhanced on par with assistant teachers.
Further, they pointed out that around 1521 of them have been serving under SSA posts with requisite qualifications at the time of their appointment and urged that they be taken into consideration with immediate steps to regularize their services.
