GUWAHATI: Nagaon Police in Assam have so far arrested eight persons after a man and a woman had been allegedly beaten up by a mob and woman’s head tonsured on Saturday night at Zumurmur village under Kampur police station in Nagaon district.
A mob of villagers on Saturday night confined and assaulted a married woman from the village and a man identified as Ubed Ullah from a neighbouring village accusing them of having an illicit affair. On getting the information police from nearby by Kathiatoli outpost rushed to the village at around 3-50 a.m. on Sunday and rescued both the man and woman and facilitated immediate medical treatment to them.
A case (No. 158/18) has been registered at Kampur police station U/S147/342/325/307/354 (B) IPC and police are thoroughly investigating the case. A senior police official informed that eight persons had been arrested so far including three persons whose names were mentioned in the FIR filed in connection with the case. The arrested have been identified as Atul Baruah, Suren Das, Kirti Nath Hazarika, Bhaben Das, Dip Das, Jadab Baruah, Krishna Mohan Nath, Deben Chandra Das.
